This is good. I will leave you with a verse and some thoughts.

1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18. "Be joyful always; Pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Applying these principles to my life all the time is difficult. I grow tired and want to give up. Finding Joy in trial and knowing that when I want to do good evil is right there with me is hard to understand, but it's written in James to consider trials with pure joy because they produce perseverance, letting faith strengthen our hearts and giving our hearts the desires pleasing to God. However, we shouldn't say God is tempting us. Therefore every moment of our lives we must choose to live obeying God's word and standing firm in Jesus Christ, who delivers us from evil, relying on His Strength and the Spirit he gives us to discern God's will from our own.

So true. God's called us to do a whole lot in His word that we "wait for Him" to call us to individually.

this is something that i've thought on for years, to be honest. the importance of a name, and the power one feels by having one, or one loses by not having one.

hence, one of the most basic yet effective way of de-humanizing holocaust victims in the concentration camps was to strip of their names, and instead know them all as numbers [and tattoo those numbers on their bodies].

and yet... god knows us all by name. :) and God has many names. and satan has no name... for "satan" is just the Hebrew word for "accuser."

Good points- I agree with you in that God's will is certainly not those things mentioned, like sex slavery or our own sin. When we try to align our will to His, even, our will is coming from a view distorted by sin. Only His will is perfect and can perfect us in any way...

What a well written blog laurence (that's the teacher in me). More importantly, beautiful thoughts. I especially like the opening sentiment about constantly being on holy ground. Enjoy your travels thru this big ol world.

I love Thomas Merton. Just the way he approaches spirituality with such awe, but at the same time he doesn't over analyze God into some complicated, scholarly box. It's beautiful.

I am a waitress, and daily I ask myself, "How is it possible for someone to treat a person the way my customer just treated me?" It's a huge lesson in patience, grace, mercy, and servanthood.
And definitely in forgiveness. Don't forget forgiveness. ;)

i loved this. i think it's because one of the biggest problems i have with so many church communities is this idea that christians should be a certain way: they talk a certain way, act a certain way, they all wear pastels and everyone in the family loves each other... it's very frustrating. they're hustling just as much as that homeless man was. and we all do it, we're all guilty of it. what made the difference here is that the homeless man knew he was a hustler, and he knew why.

i think most people have no clue they're hustlers, and no care to find out why. it takes courage to do that.
