the body

passion2010 happened over this recent winter break and it was a beautiful thing. there were over 21,000 people in attendance and due to this large number of people, passion had to rent out both the philips arena and the georgia world congress center in atlanta. the philips arena can hold about 18,000 people give or take and at the time of this thought i was seated near the very top of the arena.

i remember watching an episode of the magic school bus in which mrs. frizzle was teaching her students about the human body; more specifically about the circulatory system. there was a view of all of the blood vessels in the body and all the blood cells moving to and fro in the vessels.

our main session for this particular evening had ended and everyone was slowly finding their way around the auditorium towards an exit to go meet up with their community group. and i was looking down upon 18,000 young adults, i couldn’t help but come to the realization that i was looking at the actual body of Christ. the Church. God’s people: a living, breathing, organization chosen by God to effect the world. have we taken up the role of being God’s hands and feet in the world?

[the body is a unit, thought it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. so it is with Christ.]
